Dive Into Innovation at the 2025 International SeaPerch Challenge: May 31, 2025

From the classroom to the pool, our SeaPerch team has gone above and beyond this year—and their hard work paid off in a big way. White Pine STEM Academy proudly represented our school at the 2025 International SeaPerch Challenge, held at the University of Maryland in College Park, from May 31–June 1.

The event brought together 181 teams from around the world—including China, Kuwait, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and the United States—in a celebration of engineering, teamwork, and global collaboration.

Our team competed among 75 middle school teams and walked away with strong placements in each category:
🔹 30th Overall
🔹 20th in the Obstacle Course
🔹 27th in the Mission Course
🔹 44th in the Technical Design Report

But SeaPerch is about so much more than scores.

What is SeaPerch?

SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program where students design, build, and test their own remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). They then compete in events that challenge their ROVs to navigate obstacle courses, complete underwater missions, and demonstrate engineering excellence through technical design reports and presentations.

Why It Matters

SeaPerch is more than just a competition—it’s a powerful STEM education tool that teaches students real-world skills including:
✔️ Engineering design and problem-solving
✔️ Programming and circuitry
✔️ Collaboration and teamwork
✔️ Communication and presentation
✔️ Resilience through trial and error

Participating in SeaPerch builds confidence, curiosity, and capability, helping students see themselves as future engineers, innovators, and changemakers.

A Celebration of Effort

At the Sunday awards celebration, teams from around the world gathered to share their accomplishments, make new friendships, and begin dreaming of next year’s competition. For our students, it was a chance to see how far they’ve come, and how far their futures can take them.

We are incredibly proud of our SeaPerch team for representing White Pine with dedication, curiosity, and Cougar spirit. Thank you to our coaches, mentors, and families for supporting them every step of the way.
