ISU Bengal STEM Day: February 22, 2024

 Middle and high school students from White Pine had the exciting opportunity to participate in ISU Bengal STEM Day.  Collaborating with community partners, the ISU Science and Engineering departments curated a dynamic event filled with hands-on labs and engaging competitions. The labs sparked curiosity and aimed to ignite a passion for STEM disciplines among the young minds in attendance. The fusion of academic expertise and community support made ISU Bengal STEM Day an unforgettable and enriching experience for everyone involved. 

Girls in STEM at BYU-Idaho: February 2, 2024

  Our world is becoming increasingly more reliant on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. White Pine feels it is crucial to encourage and empower young minds, especially girls, to explore these fields.  One remarkable imitative is the BYU-Idaho Girls in STEM Day. This event serves as inspiration for our middle school girls, sparking their interest and fostering a passion for STEM disciplines.  Historically, STEM fields have been male dominated, with women underrepresented in various scientific and technical professions. Encouraging girls to pursue STEM education is not just about bridging the gender gap; it's about unlocking the full potential of our society.  Diversity in STEM brings different perspectives, ideas, and approaches, ultimately leading to more innovation and comprehensive problem-solving Our girls were able to participate in hands-on experiences, have exposure to STEM role models and sow the seeds for a more inclusive and diverse future in STEM. 

MATHCOUTHS Competition, 3rd Place: February 6, 2024

 Congratulations to McKenna and Olivia and their impressive achievement in securing 3rd place in the state MathCounts Team Round. This is a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and exceptional mathematical prowess.  Their success not only showcases their individual talent, but also reflects the growing knowledge of STEM girls in academic competitions. As they proudly stand on the podium, these young trailblazers serve as role models for aspiring girls, proving that with passion, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, they can excel in any field they choose. White Pine STEM Academy Shines in Future City Competition, Secures 4th Place: January 23, 2023

  White Pine STEM Academy demonstrated exceptional innovation and engineering prowess at the Future City competition held in Boise, Idaho. The annual competition challenges students to envision and design futuristic cities with innovative solutions to address contemporary societal challenges. This year's theme, "Electrify Your Future," tasked participants with creating a 100% electrically powered city, emphasizing energy sources that promote the health and safety of both citizens and the environment. In a highly competitive final round featuring 32 teams from 13 different schools across Idaho, including Ammon, Blackfoot, Boise, Caldwell, Garden Valley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Nampa, Parma, and Sandpoint, three teams proudly represented White Pine STEM Academy. Notably, the team behind "Bottlebrush City" secured a remarkable 4th place statewide, showcasing their exceptional creativity and problem-solving skills. Idaho Environmental Coalition: December 18, 2023

White Pine Cougars were treated to a unique and enlightening experience as the Idaho Environmental Coalition generously took the time to engage with us! The coalition's visit brought an invaluable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of environmental issues, sustainability, and the importance of conservation. A heartfelt thank you extends to the Idaho Environmental Coalition for their commitment to education and environmental advocacy.  White Pine is grateful for this enriching experience, and the impact of this interaction is sure to resonate in the hearts and minds of our students. 

INL Visit: December 8, 2023

The opportunity for high school students to engage with a Computer Scientist from the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) made for a great moment! John's visit not only provided valuable insights into the world of computer science, but also offered a firsthand glimpse into the cutting-edge research and innovations taking place at INL A sincere thank you to John and the Idaho National Lab for investing in the education and inspiration of the next generation of innovators and tech enthusiasts.

Visit from City Planner: August 31, 2023

 Cindy Donovan, City Planner, and Heather McBride, City Planning and Zoning Assistant, came to White Pine to work with our Future City class. They are working on creating a waste free city for their competition!  Having professionals like Cindy and Heather actively engaged with the Future City class enhances the students' understanding of the intricacies involved in city planning. It provides them with a unique opportunity to learn from seasoned experts who navigate the complexities of developing and implementing urban solutions on a daily basis. They opened their doors and hearts to our curious minds, allowing us to tour their facility and engage in a stimulating Q&A session with their brilliant engineers and scientists. The experience was invaluable, providing our students with insights into real-world applications of science and technology.  Applause echoes through the halls of White Pine as we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our 6th graders at their first ever Science and Engineering Fair! With boundless enthusiasm and dedication, our young scientists showcased their ingenuity and creativity, leaving us in awe of their talent and passion for discovery. Each project displayed a ton of hard work!  A heartfelt shoutout goes to the driving force behind this unforgettable experience, Mrs. Paxman. Her visionary leadership and efforts paved the way for a new tradition at White Pine, igniting a spark of curiosity in our students and empowering them to explore the wonders of science and engineering. To our exceptional 6th graders, we are bursting with pride at your accomplishments. Your perseverance and innovative spirit inspire us all. Keep reaching for the stars! 

She Can STEM-ISU: February 10, 2023

  Mrs. Paxman, Mrs. Smith, and 6th grade girls attended She Can STEM at ISU. This event was sponsored by ISEE STEM. Girls got to participate in labs from the State Crime Lab, Idahoan, Dept of Homeland Security and Idaho Power. It was a huge success and we are so lucky that our students were able to attend.
