The sky’s the limit! White Pine launches its first ever Aerospace Education Club as our students work with veterans from Desert Eagles to assemble and fly model airplanes.

From the classroom to the pool, our SeaPerch team has gone above and beyond this year—and their hard work paid off in a big way. White Pine STEM Academy proudly represented our school at the 2025 International SeaPerch Challenge , held at the University of Maryland in College Park , from May 31–June 1 . The event brought together 181 teams from around the world—including China, Kuwait, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and the United States —in a celebration of engineering, teamwork, and global collaboration. Our team competed among 75 middle school teams and walked away with strong placements in each category: 🔹 30th Overall 🔹 20th in the Obstacle Course 🔹 27th in the Mission Course 🔹 44th in the Technical Design Report But SeaPerch is about so much more than scores. Second Graders Learn from Real-Life Engineer Melroy Teigen: May 15, 2025

White Pine 2nd graders had a truly memorable learning experience this week with a special visit from Melroy Teigen , a highly accomplished engineer who spent his career with the U.S. Forest Service . Mr. Teigen rose to the position of Regional Engineer of the Pacific Southwest Region and served as the Director of Engineering , overseeing major engineering projects across the western United States. But one of the most remarkable parts of his career came during a historic natural disaster— the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980. As the Forest Engineer at the time , Mr. Teigen was responsible for leading the reconstruction of critical infrastructure damaged by the eruption. Student Launch Composting Program: May 14, 2025

 At White Pine, we believe in learning that goes beyond the classroom—and our latest student-led project is the perfect example. This spring, students took the initiative to build and launch a school compost bin , and they’ll be responsible for maintaining it throughout the year. The project began with lessons on sustainability, ecosystems, and the environmental impact of food waste. From there, students got hands-on: designing the bin, assembling materials, and creating a system for collecting compostable items like fruit peels, vegetable scraps, and paper towels from classrooms and lunches.
