A round of applause for Mrs. Kaufman and her stellar students from White Pine! Their exceptional performance at Science Olympiad held at ISU this past Saturday truly shone bright. Let's give a standing ovation to Annalea and Sam for clinching the Gold with their Tower, while Blake and Ben soared high with their Wind Power, also securing Gold.

The accolades don't stop there! Annalea and Sam showcased their talent once again, getting Bronze in Write It-Do It, while Paxton's expertise in Disease Detectives earned White Pine another Bronze!

Congratulations to the entire team for their dedication, hard work, and outstanding achievements. Keep shining bright, Cougars!

White Pine STEM Academy proudly represented our school at the 2025 International SeaPerch Challenge , held at the University of Maryland in College Park , from May 31–June 1 . The event brought together 181 teams from around the world—including China, Kuwait, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and the United States —in a celebration of engineering, teamwork, and global collaboration. Second Graders Learn from Real-Life Engineer Melroy Teigen: May 15, 2025

White Pine 2nd graders had a truly memorable learning experience this week with a special visit from Melroy Teigen , a highly accomplished engineer who spent his career with the U.S. Forest Service . Mr. Teigen rose to the position of Regional Engineer of the Pacific Southwest Region and served as the Director of Engineering , overseeing major engineering projects across the western United States. But one of the most remarkable parts of his career came during a historic natural disaster— the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980. As the Forest Engineer at the time , Mr. Teigen was responsible for leading the reconstruction of critical infrastructure damaged by the eruption. Student Launch Composting Program: May 14, 2025

 At White Pine, we believe in learning that goes beyond the classroom—and our latest student-led project is the perfect example. This spring, students took the initiative to build and launch a school compost bin , and they’ll be responsible for maintaining it throughout the year. The project began with lessons on sustainability, ecosystems, and the environmental impact of food waste. From there, students got hands-on: designing the bin, assembling materials, and creating a system for collecting compostable items like fruit peels, vegetable scraps, and paper towels from classrooms and lunches.
