STEM Is Served: Exploring Science Through Culinary Arts: April 23, 2026

Our Blue Zone Culinary Arts students are discovering that there is a lot of STEM happening in the kitchen! Throughout Immersion Week, students are exploring global cuisines while learning about nutrition, food preparation, and the science behind what we eat.

As students learn to count macronutrients, they’re using math to calculate and compare carbohydrates, proteins, fats, serving sizes, and nutritional values. Science comes into play as they explore how different foods affect the body and how ingredients change through heating, cooling, mixing, and other cooking processes. Students also use problem-solving, measurement, precision, and planning—skills that connect directly to STEM learning.

Along the way, students are experiencing foods and flavors from around the world while thinking about how the choices they make can contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

It’s hands-on STEM with a pretty great bonus at the end—you get to eat the results!

Real skills. Real food. Real learning.
